MV Paul Johansen represents the ultimate experience in style and comfort with her classic lines and large interior spaces. This former Norwegian search and rescue vessel is now set up as a go-anywhere expedition craft accommodating up to six guests in three well-appointed spacious cabins.
‘PJ’ or ‘MVPJ’ as we affectionately call her, is ideal for your active and adventurous dream holiday. MV Paul Johansen has retained all of its working vessel robustness but has evolved into an extremely comfortable world cruiser. She has all of the modern comforts with a beautiful cherry wood interior, state-of-the-art electronics, appliances and it features a variety of luxuries and toys.
MV Paul Johansen is an ideal environment for fun and relaxation; the large salon and open galley are informal, elegant and comfortable. The salon opens to a dining area and bar on the aft deck. The upper sun deck is spacious and is fitted with teak steamer chairs and an additional observation deck atop the wheel house. There is plenty of space to be together with your friends and family or to find your own serene space to sunbathe or read a book.

Main Salon and Galley
The spacious main salon and galley are open plan, very warm, bright and inviting. The galley includes granite counters; stainless appliances and abundant hospitality. The stylish and comfortable salon includes a seating and dining area in beautiful hardwoods, surround-sound entertainment, USB charging ports, and large-screen repeaters from the pilot house to view your location and heading at any time.
Accommodations
MV Paul Johansen accommodates up to six guests in three staterooms. The master stateroom and two guest staterooms each have private ensuite heads with showers; double berths; and AV equipment with access to an extensive movie library. Cabins have USB charging points, hair dryers and European 230v power. Hardwoods, granite and luxury furnishings adorn each stateroom.
Pilot House
Although the pilot house is primarily for piloting MV Paul Johansen, it is a great place to watch all the happenings while underway or to relax while at dock or anchor. The view over the foredeck is expansive.
Deck Space
Three levels of decks provide ample and unique spaces to enjoy MV Paul Johansen to its fullest. The pilot house deck is an intimate space to watch the world go by. The upper deck includes a barbecue and large area with teak lounge chairs. The aft deck has seating, tables and a bar. There is a deck shower for a post-beach quick rinse. Finally, the fore deck is a great place to watch the dolphins surfing the bow wave.
Toys
MV Paul Johansen is equipped with a number of toys including two AB rigid inflatable tenders, four stand-up paddle boards; fishing gear; snorkelling gear, a towable donut, yoga mats and two kayaks

MVPJ Systems, Communications & Safety
MV Paul Johansen has gone through an extensive multi-year refit and complete restoration resulting in the replacement or renewing of all major systems:
Main Power
- The original twin Detroit Diesel engines remain, although extensive renewing of them and their ancillary parts and systems has been completed.
Auxiliary Power Generation
- Three new Northern Lights generators are in place and have the capability to drive redundant hydraulic systems in addition to generating the necessary 230v/50hz three phase power for vessel operations.
Navigation
- All navigation equipment has been replaced with redundant systems including sensors and displays by Furuno, Nobletec and Maretron.
Ship Stabilisation
- Keypower Stabilisers keep our guests comfortable in most sea conditions.
Communications
- All communications equipment has been replaced with redundant systems including KVH VSAT; Iridium Pilot and Satellite Phones; and Icom VHF and SSB.
Monitoring
- An extensive network of Maretron sensors and displays enable the monitoring of essential vessel systems and operations throughout.
Tenders & Cranes
- Two new AB tenders with Honda four-stroke engines adorn the upper deck while new state-of-the-art Steelhead Marine cranes have been installed on the upper and fore decks.
Safety
- All safety equipment has been replaced with redundant kit. Safety gear includes Viking Pro life rafts; Mustang immersion suits and life vests; ACR EPIRB and PLBs; and fully-provisioned ditch bags.
Climate Control
- MV Paul Johansen has climate control for both hot and cold climates.
